“The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good.” W.H.Auden
Terror from Hell Records is proud to announce that International based Funeral Doom Metal band Aphonic Threnody returns to draw a grieved veil in the form of this third full-length, and sorrowfully soaked of despair and desolation. Woefully crafted around hopeless guitar riffs and solos, slow and heavy-as-a-boulder drumming and gloomy growl vocals, the band hit another nail in its coffin with the release of this new album. The international act keeps it’s distinctive and oppressive sound well rooted, yet “Of Loss and Grief” doesn’t sound as a funeral-doom album per-se as their previous releases, but it bears the first wave sound of acts such as early My Dying Bride, Morbid Symphony, Decomposed and Evoken. Tracks such as “Life Stabbed Me Once Again” and “All I’ve Loved” (this latter one features female vocals from Soph Day of Alunah) exemplifies the band’s lyrical approach: just as the musical context and words convey feelings of dismay and resignation, leading the listener through various stages of emotional distress. This despondent release features also guest appearances from musicians involved in Alunah, Mournful Congregation, Funeralium, Worship and My Shameful. No sun shines here, nor happiness or hope … just grey, insurmountable walls.
